Artist in Residence: City of Ottawa
Award-Winning Artist Jordan Danger Named Artist in Residence for the City of Ottawa
The City of Ottawa is proud to announce that Jordan Danger, an award-winning British Columbian artist and long-time Ottawa resident, has been named the 2024 Artist in Residence in Government. This prestigious position will embed Jordan within the City of Ottawa’s Waste Department over the next 12 months as a creative consultant, bringing an artist’s perspective to typically left-brained issues such as upcycling, waste reduction, and circular economies.
Through this unique program, Jordan will work alongside municipal leaders to find innovative, right-brained solutions to the challenges of managing waste in a modern city. Jordan’s expertise in clay, sculpture, murals, and painting, as well as their nearly 20 years of experience exhibiting and teaching in the Ottawa Valley, make them ideally suited for this creative role.
“I believe it is crucial to have artists engaged at all levels of society,” said Jordan. “In our race for STEM skills, art has been left behind and relegated to a ‘hobby’ activity. In reality, art has always informed the direction and development of our technology and society. The new term—STEAM—includes the arts among the key skills of humanity. Programs like this one help to position artists for the greatest impact.”
Jordan is no stranger to recognition in the art world. A two-time winner of the Best Sculpture award at the Ottawa Guild of Potters Annual Juried Exhibition (2020 and 2024), Jordan has also had two solo exhibitions in City of Ottawa galleries, most recently at the City of Ottawa Archives gallery in the spring of 2024. Their work can be found in a number of galleries across the Ottawa Valley.
In addition to creating fine art, Jordan is a dedicated educator, teaching at several art schools and studios throughout the region.
